Sunday Service
The Sunday service is the time set apart by God for us to worship him. During this service our primary goal is to honour God through all that we do. The service consists of four main activities: singing, bible reading, prayer and preaching.
The singing is congregational, with a piano to help keep us together and on tune, and aims to sing our understanding of who God is, what he has done and why we love him. We sing hymns that have been used by the church for this purpose for many years and reflect the same wonderful timeless truths we hold to. The actual book we use is the old Christian Hymns edition. The bible is central to our understanding of who God is and how we should live in the light of who God is. We therefore seek to make His word central to our worship service. We have regular weekly consecutive readings from the bible as well as those passages which will be preached on. |
Prayer is our direct access to the throne room of God. We come as God's children to worship him and prayer is the gift we have been given to speak with him. We would typically have times of prayer which seek to glorify God and ask his blessing on the service and another which would focus on the needs of His church, both locally and globally.
The preaching of God's word is central to the service. It is the time when God speaks most directly to us through His word. The preacher will explain a portion of scripture and what application this has for each of us. The greatest way we can honour God is by being obedient to Him and this is only achieved through knowing Him. The preaching of God's word is the major way that God teaches, corrects, rebukes and changes us so that we can be made in to the people we should be. We therefore give this portion of the service a very high place. We record most of our sermons and you can hear them either through the sermons page or directly through the church's sermon audio page.
