About Us

Introducing Providence Chapel

Providence Chapel, Hookgate was used by the Independent Methodist connection until 1992 when it was closed. The building has since been reopened since September 1993.

Who are we?

The congregation is made up of Christians from various church backgrounds who share a common desire to worship the Lord and learn His Word, the Bible. We belong to a group of North Staffordshire Fellowship of Evangelical Churches (NoSFEC www.nosfec.org.uk) whose aim it is to promote the gospel in the region.

Why are we here?

Since we have experienced the joy of coming to know the living Christ, our desire is to honour Him in worship and to share the Good News of the Gospel with those around us. We strive to provide something to assist people of all ages to grow in their knowledge of God and the Bible.

What do we believe?

We base our beliefs and practices solely on the Bible which is God’s inspired and infallible word to mankind. Salvation is the Gift of God and is given to all who call upon Him for mercy through the merits and sacrificial death of Jesus Christ. We do not believe that man can earn salvation by his own good works and efforts. We stand, therefore, in the tradition of biblical Christianity. We believe in the importance of explaining clearly the message of the Bible through a regular preaching ministry.

Seeking and Finding

If you are seeking to know more about the Christian faith we warmly invite you to our services. Perhaps you are a committed Christian who is looking for a spiritual home – then we welcome you to our chapel and trust you will enjoy fellowship with us.

How are we led?

As the congregation has increased, we have formed a membership, made up of those who are committed to supporting the church. The membership meets regularly to discuss matters relating to the ongoing work of the church.

How are we financed?

We are an Independent Church and do not receive outside funding on a regular basis. The ministry is dependent on the contributions of the members of the church and congregation. We do not take up collections at the services or engage in fund-raising but a collection box is provided to receive offerings. We see this as both a duty and a privilege as we believe everything we have is from the Lord and therefore His work deserves our support.
